TC 2060 over foaming

Question:

Hi,

Every now and then my skimmer will over skim which causes the cup to become filled with water in a matter of hours and flow out the top of the skimmer cup then for no reason the skimmer will run perfect with no adjustment needed as if nothing has happend ?

It will happen for no reason and can last days or will last for a few hours

The skimmer will then return to normal skim without and adjustment.

If i restrict the air going in to the skimmer while the problem is happening it will control it.

Do you have any idea on what may be cause the problem

There could be a couple of reasons for this:

1 You have used a food,additive or media that is causing a change in water tension and over foaming.

Snails or bristle worm spawns cane also cause this.

2 The feed pump isn't giving a steady water feed

3 The air venturi is partially blocked with calcium carbonate

4 There is a foreign object inside the pump

In this instance i feel this is due to a change in water surface tension due to (1) but i advice stripping down the

air pump and inspecting it.

I've attached an article that covers the SC style pump but apart from the pipework the TC pump will be very similar.
